The Ocean is at the heart of many issues that are essential for our future. It is fundamental to educate students about the current status quoin order to make them informed agents.
The Fondation de la Mer has signed a partnership agreement with the French Ministry of National Education, Youth and Sports as part of the framework to promote equal opportunities and sustainable development.
The Foundation is working in partnership with the General Directorate of School Education to develop new tools and educational opportunities to raise awareness and train all students in all issues related to the Ocean, the importance of teaching maritime history, and careers in the maritime sector.
The Fondation de la Mer also created a labelling committee for educational projects and teaching aids discussing “the sea”, relying on a group drawn from the Foundation’s scientific committee and the French General Inspectorate of Education, Sport and Research.

The sea occupies a major and sometimes forgotten place in our country. Almost all the subjects taught in the curriculum deal with the stakes around the sea: history, geography, life and health sciences, economics, literature… Our young people can draw inspiration from these subjects and discover training courses that have a promising future.
French Minister of National Education, Youth and Sports
National Education is currently playing a crucial part in France’s maritime ambition. The Minister thus actively participated, in 2015, in the creation of the Fondation de la Mer, whose aim is to work for the protection and study of the Ocean to publicize and promote maritime spaces and their resources, to promote awareness of maritime history and the maritimization of issues, especially among students. It promotes adapted tools and does not neglect any relevant educational vector.
